Sixers Look for 5th Win in a Row Tonight Against Miami

The Sixers are looking for their 5th win in a row tonight against the Miami Heat. It will be a good matchup because Shaquille O'neal is playing in his third game after his ankle injury. Chris Webber, who scored 27 points and grabbed 21 rebounds against the Timberwolves the other night, will be expected to help slow down Shaq in the post. It was the 9th time in his career that C-Webb had 20 plus points and rebounds in the same game. Another key matchup tonight will take place between perennial All-Stars Dwayne Wade and Allen Iverson. Their jerseys are currently the top two selling jerseys.

The NBA has just recently announced that the Sixers will be holding their training camp abroad next season. The Sixers are one of four NBA teams that will be in Europe. Sixers on 2 Game Win Streak

After struggling and losing 4 games in a row, the Sixers have finally been able to get back on track. The Sixers defeated the Charlotte Bobcats on Friday night, and defeated the New Jersey Nets at the Meadowlands last night.

As usual, the Sixers were led by Allen Iverson, but on Friday, Kyle Korver scored 26 points to tie his career high. Kyle's hot shooting the past two games helps compliment the the scoring of Allen and Chris Webber. The Sixers will take on the Minnesota Timberwolves on Monday night at the Wachovia Center at 7 pm. The Sixers are still in First place in the Atlantic Division with a 10-11 overall record.

Sixers Struggling, but Remain in First Place in the Atlantic Division

The Sixers lost all three games on their recent road trip. They suffered losses to Boston, New Orleans-Oklahoma City, and the defending World Champion San Antonio Spurs last night. The Sixers have looked weary, as this was the third time they have played 4 games in 5 nights this season.

The Sixers return home to play the Milwaukee Bucks for the third time this season on Wednesday night. Hopefully the Sixers will be able to improve on their 8-10 record.

Sixers Coach Maurice Cheeks was named by Sports Illustrated to be the 9th best point guard of all time, and Allen Iverson was ranked number 2 of active point guards.

Sixers defeat Portland, look to make it 2 in a row in Boston Tonight

Last evening , the 76ers defeating the Portland Trail Blazers rather easily. Unlike the previous two games, the Sixers were able to hold on to their large first half lead, and cruise to the victory. The Sixers, who have been struggling mightily defensively, and on the boards, were able to hold the Blazers well below their points per game average, and also were able to grab 30 more rebounds than the Blazers.

The Sixers were paced by Allen Iverson's 38 points and 8 rebounds. Chris Webber also contributed with another double-double of 16 points, 15 rebounds. All in all, the Sixers looked much better defensively, and hopefully they can continue this tonight in Boston.

Sixers Lose Heartbreaker to Knicks

Yesterday, at Madison Square Garden in New York City, the Sixers lost an overtime thriller to the Knicks. In the first half, the Sixers had as much as a 18 point lead over the Knicks. The Knicks made a run in the third quarter and eventually had the lead for most of the second half.

The Sixers were able to send the game into overtime, after Chris Webber tipped in Allen Iverson's miss at the buzzer. In overtime, Allen Iverson hit a three pointer with 6 seconds remaining. The Knicks pushed the ball up the court, and eventually Nate Robinson was able to make a prayer three pointer from the corner to give the Knicks the victory.

The Sixers currently have a 7-7 record and are in first place in the Atlantic Division. On Tuesday, the Sixers will take on Maurice Cheeks former team, the Portland Trail Blazers.

After winning 6 straight games, the Sixers have lost two games in a row. Friday night, the Sixers fell to Dwayne Wade and the Miami Heat. At home on Saturday night, Lebron James and the Cavaliers came back from 16 points down to eventually defeat the Sixers 123-120. Allen Iverson and Chris Webber each a double-double in the game.

The Sixers will take on the New Orleans-Oklahoma City Hornets Monday night at the Wachovia Center. The Sixers plan to honor New Orleans during the game. Information on this can found on the link below.

After starting off with 3 straight losses to begin the season, the Sixers have finally stepped up their defense, and currently have a 4 game winning streak. During the streak, the Sixers have defeated the Pacers, Mavericks, Lakers, and Clippers. Andre Igoudala had a great game against Kobe Bryant, and was able to hold him to 17 points below his seasons average. The last three wins have been in Philadelphia, and the Sixers will look to sweep the homestand by defeating the Toronto Raptors Tuesday night. The first 5000 fans under 12 that attend the game will receive a replica Maurice Cheeks jersey. Below is a link to the other promotions being offered this season:

Sixers Promotions

After the first seven games of the season, Allen Iverson is averaging 30.1 pts per game and 7.9 assists per game. Both these stats put him in the top 10 in both respective categories. Chris Webber is averaging a solid 19.3 points per game, as well as 9.3 rebounds per game. If he can manage to stay healthy, the Sixers should definitely improve on their record last season.

Sixers off to a Slow Start

The 76ers have gotten off to a 1 and 3 start to their 2005-06 season. During opening night against the Milwaukee Bucks, the Sixers blew a large lead at home, and the Bucks were able to defeat the Sixers easily in overtime. Allen Iverson and Chris Webber each had more than 30 points in the game.

The next night, the Sixers traveled to Detroit to take on the defending Eastern Conference Champion Pistons. The Pistons were in control the whole game, and ended up defeating the Sixers by 20 on national television.

Friday night, the Sixers played against the young Charlotte Bobcats at home. The Sixers lost the game, and looked very laxidazical in the game. The Sixers have been struggling on defense, and are currently allowing the most points per game in the Atlantic division.

Last night, the Sixers traveled to Indiana to take on the Pacers. The Sixers won 111-109, and Allen Iverson led the Sixers with 29 points and 12 assists. This was Mo cheeks first win as the Sixers head coach. Beating a team of the Pacers caliber after 3 bad games, is a huge positive for the Sixers.

The Sixers next game is against the Dallas Mavericks on Wed. the 9th in Philadelphia. Tickets are still on sale via ticketmaster

Tuesday, the Sixers will play the Milwaukee Bucks to kick off the 82 game season. This will be Maurice Cheeks first game coaching the team. He knows what it takes to win a championship, as he was a key contributor to the Sixers 1982-83 championship squad. Dr. J is expected to be in attendance to witness his teammates return to the Sixers bench.

Second Week of Preseason

The Sixers currently have a 3-3 record this preseason. On friday the 21st, the Sixers lost 93-91 to the New Jersey Nets. Perennial All Stars, Allen Iverson and Chris Webber did not suit up for the game. Both players are sidelined healing injuries. This will allow them to be healthy once the regular season starts next week. The Sixers next preseason game will take place at the Wachovia center in South Philadelphia on Tuesday the 25th. Tickets are on sale via Ticketmaster, or you can catch the action on Comcast Sportsnet starting at 7:00 pm.

Pre-Season has Begun!

The Sixers began their preseason play last week against the Rockets at the Wachovia Center. The Sixers lost to the Rockets by fourteen points. Besides the loss to the Rockets, the Sixers defeated the defending world champion San Antonio Spurs in their second game of the preseason. After defeating the Spurs, the Sixers traveled to Ohio to face the Cleveland Cavaliers. Lebron James did not play for the Cavs in this game. Allen Iverson scored 30 points to help the Sixers improve their preseason record to 2-1.

On Tuesday night, Sixers fans can catch the first televised game of the season on Comcast Sportsnet. The coverage begins at 7:30, and will take place at Madison Square Garden against the New York Knicks.

The Sixers have completed their six day training camp at Duke University. The team is now getting ready to take on the Houston Rockets on Tuesday night to start off the preseason. Chris Webber has lost close to 20 lbs., and is looking like the player he used to be. I think this will allow him and Allen to work well together this year. Hopefully Chris will be able to get up and down the floor more this season.

Almost Time to Start

The Sixers are just two days away from starting training camp, I can't wait for the season to begin. It seems just like yesterday the Sixers were getting trounced in the playoffs by the Detroit Pistons. Hopefully this season turns out different. As the Phillies won today, but still did not advance to the playoffs, because the Houston Astros won. This is a major disappointment for the city, because this means another professional sports season has finished without a championship. I am hoping that the Sixers will be able to fix this problem next June.

Training Camp Announced

The Sixers have announced that they will be holding their training camp at Duke University from Oct. 4th to 9th. The camp will take place at Duke's Cameron Indoor Stadium.

In other news, the Sixers have agreed to terms with former Hornets' forward Lee Nailon. Nailon is 6 ft. 9 inches tall and scored 14.2 points per game last season. He should definitely help the Sixers in the low post.

Sixers' superstar Allen Iverson, is in Asia giving clinics to youngsters. He is traveling and working with Chinese and Houston Rocket's center Yao Ming. Being the NBA MVP in 2001, and the United States National Teams' captain, has made Iverson into a icon in households all over the world.

Hurricane Relief Efforts

Last week, while the victims of Hurricane Katrina were recovering in Houston, the NBA and its superstars held a charity game to raise funds for the victims. Sixers guard Allen Iverson was scheduled to play in the game, but could not because of an inflamed elbow. However, Iverson did end up showing up at the game about ten minutes before the tip off to show his support for the event.

Iverson also filmed a commercial with Flyers captain Keith Primeau in an effort to get the Philadelphia community to aid in the relief efforts. Chris Webber has been accepting donations for schools and libraries. Sixers center Samuel Dalembert is contributing to the cause by helping in the "Feed the Children" effort. It's nice to see the athletes come together and help for an important cause.

Purpose of My Blog

Hello again everyone,

I am keeping this blog on the Sixers for my BUAD477 class at the University of Delaware. I hope that I can keep everyone informed on how the Sixers are doing this season.

The first preseason game is on October 11th against the Houston Rockets. The preseason ends on October 27th, then the Sixers will prepare for the 82 game season, which starts with a match up against the Milwaukee Bucks.

The team is returning the five starters from last seasons squad. Hopefully Allen Iverson and Chris Webber will be able to mesh after a frustrating season last year, and the younger players will step up. I am really expecting Andre Iguodala to have a huge sophomore season. He is already one of the best defenders in the league, and hopefully he has worked on his jump shot in the offseason, to become even more of a weapon. Thanks for checking out my blog!
